Count Sperm Tonight at Bluestockings

WSQ: Trans- at Bluestockings
Thursday, Feb 12, 7pm
Featuring Lisa Jean Moore, author of Sperm Counts: Overcome by Man’s Most Precious Fluid

Join fiction, non-fiction, and poetry contributors as they share selections from Trans-, the newest issue of WSQ: Women’s Studies Quarterly. The issue explores how the concept of “trans” has drawn attention to the porous areas between definitions: between young and old, and real and imaginary, and especially man and woman.

Published by the Feminist Press at CUNY, Trans- includes an analysis of cross-dressing laws in nineteenth century San Francisco and a sociological study of BDSM communities in the United States and Western Europe.

Presenters: The author of the forthcoming poetry collection Quantum Jitters, Patricia Carlin is an associate professor at New School University. Lucas Crawford is pursuing a PhD in English and film studies at the University of Alberta in Edmonton. A professor at Brooklyn College, Paisley Currah is a guest editor of WSQ: Trans- and the co-editor of Transgender Rights. Lisa Jean Moore is a professor at Purchase College. She is a guest editor of WSQ: Trans-, the author of Sperm Counts, and the co-author of Missing Bodies.
