Uncovering NYC’s Lost Places of Leisure, Online

David Freeland’s book, Automats, Taxi Dances, and Vaudeville: Excavating Manhattan’s Lost Places of Leisure, coming this summer from NYU Press, chronicles his journey through many forgotten corners of Manhattan that housed some of the most happening joints of its raucous and storied past. Freeland is continuing his exploration through a new blog, Gotham Lost and Found, where he’ll look at a new bit of the city every week, researching its possibly sordid and swinging past. He’s also taking suggestions and hints from readers as to what he should look at next. Go sneak a peak at the hidden history of the city.
