Politics in Paperback

The NYTimes Sunday Book Review gave a brief shout-out to The Art of Ill Will by Donald Dewey (NYU Press 2008) in their Paperback Row article.

THE ART OF ILL WILL: The Story of American Political Cartoons, by Donald Dewey. (New York University, $22.95.) Two hundred cartoons, mostly from the Granger Collection in New York City, share space with an essay about the history of the American political cartoon in this interesting volume. Thomas Nast’s vicious depictions of Boss William M. Tweed from the 1870s are here, as is Herblock’s 1954 drawing of a slimy, dark-jowled Richard Nixon crawling out of a sewer.
